Missed Two Days In A Row
Almost . . .
Tuesday, for Valentines Day, I got up at 4:30 in the morning to take Ben down for ear tub surgery. I just couldn’t bring myself to get up any earlier to run. The procedure went great and afterwards I came to work until 8:00 pm so by the time I got home I listened to how I felt and wrote off one day. As a matter of fact when the alarm went off at 5:30 am Wednesday morning I wrote off my leg workout as well. I tried to justify going into work late after sleeping in an extra hour, but just couldn’t.
Wednesday night when I got home we got the kids to bed, and then I went over to the church for a bit. On my drive home I was thinking about how doing my leg lift I’d skipped that morning would kill my run on Thursday, but I just couldn’t miss two days in a row. So I didn’t something I never do. I started a workout at 9:30 at night. It went fast. Kristi was helping me get through everything quickly by setting up my weights.

That's great Jason. You seem to have much more going on and still manage to get your workouts in. I hope football went well today and that you had a blast. I finally got out to play some basketball on Thursday night and it has been long enough that my body has been sore the last couple of days. Now I just need to get out and start running again.
Mike – I’m impressed when you squeeze in workouts. A PhD program; a pregnant wife; and Brayden is more than a full time job. Let a lone church and everything else. And the weather you’re dealing with doesn’t help much.
Saying I've been a bit sore would be an understatement.
Pulled my right groin, bruised my left knee, smashed my right pinky and sprained my left thumb. At least there was an odd symmetry to it all. Worst of all I didn’t play very well. The game didn’t make for a very good cardio workout, but it did bring to light muscles I don’t use; at least not in those ways. For all the running I’ve been doing I don’t do any quick acceleration or deceleration and I certainly don’t change directions quickly.
I’ve been stretching out the groin carefully since Saturday and I think I’ll be fine. I went ahead and did my leg workout yesterday, but had to modify for my tenderness. Then today I slowed my run considerably because it was hurting my stride. It’s always a fine line between pushing through some tightness and not letting injuries heal. Luckily I felt better at the end of my run then when I started so I don’t think I’m over did it. I’m actually going to try to run again tonight and then do some stretching.
John – I’m thinking you went to Atlanta for the weekend, and I understand that family has been real sick. Hope you guys are okay.
Thanks for the words of understanding Jason. Life is a bit busy for me and most of the time I feel like I am barely staying afloat. To make matters worse Nat came down with a bad case of Strep this week, so I have had to stay home a couple days to help out around the house and with Brayden.
Sorry to hear you got so beat up playing football. It is nice playing basketball once a week because it does keep me cutting and sprinting a fair amount. I think it is good for you to mix things up a bit and not just run/jog in straight lines all the time. Of course, the real reason is that I just enjoy playing team sports more than running in circles or lines by myself.
John, I hear you won't be coming to visit us after all due to Nat being so sick. I think she is almost over it though, and it doesn't look like Brayden or I have caught it yet, so it could still work for you to come if you wanted to give it a shot. If you read this give me a call tomorrow anytime and let's talk about plans.
Love you both, Mike
