Running with a magazine
On Saturday I ran on the treadmill with a runner's world magazine. I had to step to the side a few times to turn sticky pages but other than that it was a total success. Ended up running 6.25 miles in 44:09, 7:04 pace. My heart rate was fine at 157 ahr, 182 mhr. I felt real strong and could have run another couple of miles but they closed the gym on me.
This morniong I lifted chest and ran a mile/biked 4 miles. Really light workout today, tomorrow I am going to hit it hard so I wanted to rest a bit more today. Jason, I read an ad for the new Garmin wrist unit, it looks awesome and I covet!

Last week was busy with Kristi's birthday and dad, mom, Tracy, and Eddie coming into town. Still lifted Mon (upper), Wed (lower), Fri (upper.); and ran Tues, Thur, Sat.
I thought of trying to do a bench press max on Saturday figuring I could get Eddie to spot me, but we ended up being quite busy and I was just happy to get a run in. If I had to guess I'd think the very best I could do right now is 185 lbs.
Wednesday is my 24th day in a 84 day routine. That means I'm a little more than 1/4 done. I really want to push hard for Wednesday's upper body. It's time to prove I'm getting somewhere.
Thursday I ran four miles at the hotel because I could. Time was slow at a 8:20 pace, but I did feel good about going for more than 30 minutes.
Saturday I did 2.75 miles in 21:33 for a 7:50 pace. I could have gone faster, but not much and I'm really trying to make sure I finish out my distance. My ahr was 174 bpm and my max was 189 bpm. While those are my best heart numbers they're still quite high, but I'm not ready to slow my run any more than I already have.
For the fourth week in a row I'm still at 17.5% body fat. I did get the scale to read 17.0% when I inched forward so I'm praying I can hit that number this week w/o cheating. My weight bounces around day to day like I'd expect, but I'm basiclly going nowhere. I was actually hoping to put on some weight with the lifting.
So to summarize I'm running slower with a very high heart rate; not making much progress in body fat or weight gain; and making little progress in my weigh lifting. I'm sure I'll push through this platuea soon.
You and me both brother, I can't seem to make sense of the numbers. I even cut out candy entirely. It has been more than two weeks since I have had any candy. No difference in the numbers, 185, 23%. I did 225 last week, but it was one time, and I had two people spotting me and spit was flying and well you get the picture,...not pretty. I don't seem to be lifting any heavier but I feel better, it sure moves slowly wehn you get older. In high school if I was working this hard I would already be running 5 minute miles and my muscles would be ripped. So, I was going to tell you, I bought some of that wellements whey protein shake and I have 1 and a 1/2 scoops on my way to the gym in the morning, I love it. But no difference so far. I am actually thinking of visiting a speicalist to have my hormone levels checked out. Maybe I am having lowgrade hypothyroidism. I found a great articel in a peer reviewed journal about whey proteinl. Do you want me to forward you a copy? It is pretty long.
It would be interesting to look at provided I can understand any of it.
I've got a question. So I loaded on creatine for six days at 20 grams a day then went to maintainance at 3 grams a day. But I didn't take it with me to the hotel so I missed Wed and Thurs, and then I fasted on Sunday so I didn't take it until Sunday night. Do I have to go back to a loading phase or can I just continue at 3 grams a day?
Do a mini-burst for two days at 20 grams a day and then back to 3 a day. You probably already have, but there's my two cents worth. Creatine degrades extremely slowly, you should be alright.
