Saturday and beyond
Hey guys,
No posts for a while, hope everything is okay on your end, I am busy with exams again and not feeling well either. But I have continued to work out, just lighter.
Saturday, I did a spinervals video, 45 minutes on the bike.
Monday, lifted chest, worst ever since I started lifting again, then when I went to run, I bonked at like two miles. Physically exhausted, I just couldn't do anymore. Here are the numbers: 2 miles, 14:08, 7:09 pace, 162 ahr, 171 mhr. Weight = 184 with clothes.
Tuesday, lifted back, better than yesterday but still weak compared to the last several weeks. Only ran a mile today, I just feel strange and sluggish and my heart rate is way too high for the pace I ran. 1 mile, 7:03, 167 ahr, 183 mhr. Like I said, for the pace I was running and for the limited amount of time, my ahr should have been around 160 and my mhr around 165. Weight was 188 with clothes, how is that possible? Anyway, I hope I feel better soon, I am thinking about taking tomorrow off from working out. What do you guys think?

My end is okay. And hopefully getting a little bit small each day. It's the sick time of the year. I'm not sick, but everyone else is. Both the kids have ear infections and Kristi's got some kind of cold going on. So I'm a little bit tired from trying to step us to the plate a bit.
My two cents John, is to rest and let your body get better. The fact your heart rate is higher likely says your body's working on getting better. Don't be too proud to take a day when you need it. That's just one old man's opinion. And only 'cause you asked.
As for workouts. I lifted upper body Saturday. Started to up my weight a bit and still feeling good. Then Monday was lower body and today was a true run for the first time since last Tuesday.
I don't know if it's my leg workout yesterday; my giving blood last week; cutting my running back in general; or being a bit tired, but my running is going in the wrong direction. Not that I'm running backwards mind you.
But this morning I only did 2.5 miles at a 7:50 pace. I didn't wear by heart monitor so I'm not sure what my heart was doing other than to say it was racing. I had every intention of doing 2.75 mile so I started a bit slow to make sure I'd get the distance, but by 2.25 miles I was hurting so I upped my speed a bit and finished out strong for 2.5 miles.
I'll run again Thursday and see were I'm at. I knew I'd slow down on my progress as I added in lifting, but to actually lose speed hurts. The good news is I weighed in at 176 lbs. and 17.5% body fat, naked. I thought I might lose ground there as well seeing I basicall took of Thursday and Friday (just walked) after giving blood, and ate myself sick Saturday night.
If I have to give up speed in the short term to put on some muscle I'd do it, but it'll be disappointing.
Has anyone tried swimming yet?
I am going to start swimming next Tuesday and plan to swim every Tuesday and Thursday night, in addition to the morning workouts. We will see about that last part. As for today, I am doing nothing and trying to drink a lot of fluids. I don't think I am sick, just run-down from all the studying. Don't be too worried about the running Jason, your body will adapt and you will be back stronger and faster than you were before you started lifting weights. my money is on the leg workout the day before, I always try to take it easy for a couple of days after a leg workoutl. Usually, I lift legs on Friday or Saturday because I know I have a Sunday recovery day looming.
The workout schedule I've chosen will have me doing legs before basically half of my runs. That's reality for the next couple or three months. Hopefully I'll be able to keep making progress all the same.
On a different note Garmin just announced at the beginning of the month a new GPS running watch. It's much smaller and they claim more accurate. Now I'll have to wait to see reviews. It looks pricey $350 so I'm not sure I'd get it even if it's the best thing around. Like I said before I'm not looking to buy for a couple of months anyway.
Hope you feel better and get some rest. Let me know how the swimming goes.
