Tuesday and Wednesday
Tuesday 1\10\06.
Ran on the treadmill, 23:45, 3.25 miles. That's good enough for a 7:18 pace. I kind of got overheated though. Wish I had control over the thermostat. They crank the heat up and it's on the 2nd floor. Of course, there are fans up there but the treadmills closest to the fans are busted (see monday's posting). Anyway, I actually started with a 10 minute bike ride, then lifted back, focusing on wide grip for more lateral definition, then ran and stretched for awhile. Felt good and I love working back because I can lift the most weight of any upper body workout that I do. Although, I am starting to increase my pec and shoulder strength gradually.
Wednesday 1\11\06.
I slept in a little today, 5:15, luckily Christy was up with Elly and woke me up. Elly has been doing much better at night since we came home. The last three nights she has slept from around 8 pm to 4:30-5:00 am, then goes back down for a few more hours after that. Consequently, CHristy and I are doing much better as well. Anyway, I focused completely on stomach and lower back this morning, then ran upstairs on the treadmill for 2.5 miles. 18:09, 160 avg heart rate, 170 max (at the end) and I weighed 187.5 lbs with 25% body fat (these numbers were from before I left the house, pre-workout. So that makes my pace 7:15, an average three seconds faster than yesterday. Today I actually quit because of fatigue, and time a little bit I guess. I wanted to take a shower before the morning rush. It didn't work. There were already three people in the shower when I got there so I just changed clothes and left. Ate an apple adn a string cheese and I am feeling good. Mike, where are you? Jason, what did you do yesterday, since the day before you did your entire upper body?

Tuesday I ran, but it wasn't pretty. Monday I'd done a lower body workout and despite my stretching my legs were in a bad way when I stepped on the treadmill.
I stopped at 2.25 miles with a 7:44 pace, and it was everything I could do to get that far. Don’t want to injure anything just to prove I can run another half mile.
Today, Wednesday, we lifted upper body. My legs are feeling much better. I’ve been doing lots of stretching. So I'm hoping to get my full 2.75 miles in tomorrow, but I'm doing lower body again Friday. Here’s hoping it doesn't screw me up too much for my Saturday run.
The upper body workouts are going well, but a weird part of me wishes I’d get as sore as my lower body. Then I’d feel like I was pushing hard enough. As I’ve been thinking about my workout I’ll likely put more emphasis on lifting for the next three months. I’ll still run three times a week, but I don’t expect I’ll make major strides in times. Then in the spring I’ll try to work up a running workout and just maintain the lifting.
Thanks for your input on the watches. Like I said I’m just doing homework for now. Polar’s got an interesting devise that’s measures your paces and distance by a sensor you tie to your shoe. I’ve read a couple of reviews and some people actually like it better then the Garmin and Timex GPS systems. Having read about the Garmin and Timex and looking through Polar’s site my first thought is the RS200sd. It’s $200 vs. $300 for the Garmin or Timex, plus you can upload all your data to Polar’s site.
You should definitely check out the Polar website.

Looks like it’s free. If you have a watch that uploads or if you’re willing to input data it looks like an amazing running log. And it appears they have programs to train you for events. I’m getting that only having checked out the demo.
Three months or so from now I’ll start trying to make a decision. And now for my last thought on this very long post. John make sure you check your email. I sent you info on a swimming technique for distance swimming. The guy that sent me the email did an olympic length triathlon and swears by it. They’ve got videos on the website and I’ll burn you a copy of the DVD he’s copying for me.
Slacker were are you?
Thanks Jason, I am actually watching a demo from the website right now. I would love a copy. I have been to the polar website before but not to the specific demo you are talking about, and obviously you've done more homework on this than I have. But, since I have had two polars and enjoyed them both, stick with the polar rs200sd. I will check that out when I get the chance.
Good job on the lifting, sounds like you have a good plan in place. Keep it up.
