Back from the break

Hello my friends, back though dead, and still feeling it. Interpret as you like.

Anywhoo, got up at 4:45, lifted chest, ran 2 miles in 15 minutes flat when the treadmill suddenly shut off permanently. I took it as a sign that I needed to study for my test at 11:00, so I went to the stationary bike where I can usually focus better on reading. I was studying while running too but it is harder to concentrate that way, too much movement in the vertical plane, if you get my drift. Biked for 10 minute, 3.2 miles, 19.2 mph pace. not bad. Got a good sweat on. Showered, went to class, took a test, went to work, more class, and now I am home at quarter 5 getting ready for dinner and thouroughly enjoying life. I love getting up early, and feeling warm and fuzzy at night. Miss you guys a ton. Looking forward to your posts. Slacker, are you still slacking? Just curious if the vacation rekindled any embers. Oh, I almost forgot. I want to do this triathlon in mid-June, any takers? 600 yard swim, 15 mile bike, 5k run. I might be able to scrounge a road bike if either of you want to do it. Mike? We could do it together, push eachother but not compete? Just checking.

One more thing, I would think that a sub 20 minute 5-k is attainable and my 15 mile bike time would be under 45 minutes. No idea for the swim. Anybody know anything about swimming?

My butt didn’t make it out of bed until 5:30. You’d already been up for a while when I was feeling all good about myself for my early start. You’re my hero. Glad to see you made it home safe.
Today was my first leg work out; quads, hamstrings, calves and abs. I do abs on leg day so that I can mash all my real pain into one day. I’m going to run in the morning, but I’m going to be very sore. Hopefully it won’t slow me down too much.
The triathlon sounds fun, but I can’t imagine I could make it out to you in mid-June. And sub 20 minutes for 3.1 miles (5k) after a swim and a bike doesn’t sound like it’s in my range right now. Mike you could probably get ready with a bit of a push. I know the swim a major technique. I guy I ride the train with did a sprint triathlon and did most of the swim by back stroke.
John what model Polar watch do you use. I’m probably going to get a new one and I’m curious how much you like yours. I’ll probably won’t buy it until sometime this summer when I shift back to a running emphasis, so I’m just trying to educate myself in the mean time.

Polar S150, but they don't manufacturer it anymore. But, you don't want it anyway. It has bike functions. Seemed like a great idea, have one watch and be able to use it for heart rate monitor and bike computer. It just isn't that convenient and the watch is always trying to tell me how many miles I've biked after I finish my run. Though it is nice for my rides when I can monitor my heart and all my biking stats as well. I wish my watch had a calorie counter and was downloadable, because it isn't downloadable and you can't save previous workouts, you lose any information from the previous day's workout the moment you press start for the new one. So, I guess if my watch had a memory function I wouldn't need to download.

If you want the ability to download you are going to spend around 200-300 dollars though. Cyclosport makes a great watch, that is the one I want. It not only does calorie, workout planning, and all the heart functions, it is downloadable as well. Polar makes several models, all excellent quality, but more pricey than any other brand. The latest and greatest is from garmin, gps unit, gives you exact mileage anywhere you run, or bike, or hike. Drawback for me is size, it is like this ginormous rectangular black box on your wrist and then a little ipod thing on your upper arm. Though, maybe the size will shrink enough by the time you want to buy.

I guess it all depends on what you want. I want more connectivity and accuracy of mileage so my next one will be gps. However, a basic 80 dollar polar model is just fine for 99% of runners and it will go for years and years.
