Friday log

Played good soccer for about 40 minutes, lifted legs, then ran 2.62 miles in 20 minutes. I did true squats today for the first time in more than 10 years. Lifted 165 lbs and remembered why I hated them. My back is killing me and my legs are thrashed.

Never met someone that didn't hate squats. They attack all the largest muscle groups at once, and you can easily hurt yourself if you get loose with your form.

When I do squats I either use a rack (one of those kinds where the bar is welded to a bar) or I keep with relatively low weights. Like you said the two things that will kill you are injuries and illness.

Speaking of illness, I didn't get on the treadmill like I hoped last night and this morning I got on much later than I'd hoped. And my thinking that I might be at 80% was way off.

Got up this morning feeling better than I have in days. Even though I was having night sweats last night. I'm really not sure what's driving the fever. I think the flu is gone, but I might have gotten a sinus infection in the mean time.

After getting Kristi and the kids loaded and on the road I ate some oatmeal with milk and brown sugar to get some carbs in me and 20 minutes later jumped on for a run.

One slow mile later I actually started walking. I don't believe I've lost that much ground from a fitness standpoint. I think I'm just weaker than expected. The time I recorded in my log with 3 miles in 30:30, but then I walked another mile at a steep incline.

Haven't wanted to eat much over the past few days, but I have tried to stick to high quality calories. And I think it's just combined with everything else to make this morning's run suck!

The whole thing makes me empathize with dad a lot more. When I was telling him about your killer times the other night he was lamenting his sciatic issues and how it's cut him back to 12 minute miles. I tried to be encouraging by pointing out what a faithful runner he's always been and how great he does for his age. Unfortunately it might have come across as condescending.

Anyway I guess you prove your commitment during the hard times and not the easy ones.

One good note is I was 179 lbs and 19% body fat after the run.

I was going to ask you what your measurements were looking like. Well done man! You'll be feeling better in no time and in the end it doesn't matter how fast or far you ran if you are healthy and happy. Dude, I think we might be getting tornadoed here right now, the house feels like it is going to be blown away at any minute.

Anyway, keep up the good work Jason, hit it hard on Monday after a few days off and you'll be right back at it. Where did Kristi and the kids run off to this time?
