A Week Later
This week I was effectively nursing injuries so my runs have been much slower then normal.
Tuesday’s run was very slow (26:20, 8:47 pace) so I stretch out my distance to 3 miles then Thursday I pushed a bit more on the speed (22:00, 8:00 pace) and did 2.75 miles. My right groin muscle is probably at 90% as of this morning’s leg workout, and my left knee is pretty close to 100% for running. Though it still didn’t like it when I tried leg curls this morning. I forgot to wear my heart monitor on Tuesday, but Thursday I had an AHR of 163 bpm. That’s much lower then my normal 175 bpm as I’d expect from the slower pace, but it’s also more in my theoretical target range.
My weight is up this week about 3½ pounds. Last week, after not putting on weight for a few weeks, I relaxed my eating habits a bit more; and sure enough I picked up pounds quickly. I was also up to 18% body fat so I’m trying to be just a bit more careful this week.
Hang in there guys. Sorry to hear about all the illness.

I love that feeling. That is how I have been feeling the past week, sore, but good sore. Sorry about the 10 day hiatus, finals and sick family and church took precedence over fun time on the internet. I have missed you both, but I have indeed kept up my routine, even through finals. My grades suffered a bit because of it (I got 2 B's) but I don't care because it keeps me sane. I got to run out side twice this last week, temps got near 40 so I went for it. Thursday I ran 5.5 miles on a real hilly course, I don't remember my time and it has been deleted but it was around 7:30. Not bad considering it was cold and hilly and I had a big blister because my brand new shoes blew out the heel cup and rubbed my raw. Then on Saturday I put on my running pants and two long sleeve shirts and a beanie and a windbreaker and gloves and ran 7.5 miles, again at around a 7:30 pace. Hard to push it when you are so bundled up and still cold.
Today I started back into heavy weights and low reps. I try to do 8-6-4-8, increasign the weights to peak at 4 reps, and then drop down to just a little heavier than the first set and do the last set at 8 reps. The last 6 weeks I have done lighter weights, higher reps; 12-12-10 sets. Today I was able to peak at 55 pound dumbells on the incline bench, 70 pound dumbbells on the flat bench and 35 on fly. I am most excited about the 70 pound flat bench, I was able to do three all on my own and thankfully had a spotter for the fourth. Swimming is going well, last Tuesday I swam the full 600 yards without using my legs and did it in 8 seconds faster than the week before when I used my legs. 11:41 isn't very good but I don't feel too badly about it. If I can shave off a couple of minutes and get out of the lake at under 10 I will be stoked. Sure love you guys. Keep up the good work. Peace out.
