Tuesday Morning
Lifted back this morning and then did a speed workout on the treadmill. three sets of 3minute as 9.5 mph, with 3 minutes of 8.0 mph before each set. It looks like it is pretty close to a half mile set at the 6:18 pace. I just did some calculations and the overall shake down looks like this:
2.63 miles, 18:00 minutes, 6:51 pace. I know the average doesn't mean much but it boosts my confidence to know that I can run that fast if I need to, even if I need to slow up at times. Makes me want to push a little faster during my normal runs.
Tonight I plan to swim, if the pool isn't closed like it was on Thursday last.

It’s good to see my hero back posting times that I can only dream of. I’m sure I couldn’t sustain 9.5 mph for three minutes. I’ve done 10 mph for one minute recently, but it was to finish me off at the end of a run. And finish me off it did.
How did the swim go?
This week has not started well. Monday Kristi talked me into lifting at night which wasn't a bad thing, but it did get us to bed late. Then Ben woke up in the middle of the night with a temp; and I ended up sleeping in his bed, which left Kristi to sleep right through the alarm. I was late to work w/o getting to run.
I sure do love your sister, but she's not good at clock management.
Then I didn't get to make up my run last night because of all the running around w/ medicine and doctors. Turns out Ben's temp is due to pneumonia. My little cutie doodie was in a bad way last night. But despite it all and getting to bed late we did make it up this morning.
We did do our leg workout and it felt good enough that it will probably affect tomorrow's run. I’ve thought about our chat the other day, and I’m really going to focus on finishing out my 12 week lifting program. Only then will I measure, evaluate, and make my new goals. I hope I’m not to narcissistic, but I just like lifting. I want to hold my own running as well, but I really don’t think I’ll ever get to a point in the near future where my workout runs are longer than 25 minutes. And if I get to a point where I’m consistently running three miles in those <25 minutes I’ll likely be very content. My gut says I’ll probably shoot for three 7:30 miles by the end of August, and be very proud to due it.
Back to this morning, after I got out of the shower I heard Aly waking up. When I went in to get her she looked awful and had a temp too. I tried offering her, water, milk, juice, a cracker, cereal, but she said no to everything. So I asked, “Aly what do you want?” Her reply, “I need to go to the doctor.” Yes, you guest it she’s got pneumonia too.
So sorry to hear about Ben and Aly, it sucks watching your helpless little children feeling so miserable despite every attempt to soothe. It broke my heart when Jonas was sick last week. He would just look so panic-stricken when he threw up, nothing I could do. No fun at all. But they get better and life moves on and they forget about it eventually.
The 9.5 for three minutes went something like this: first minute felt great, second minute felt like I would die, third minute flew by with my legs separate from my brain. My heartrate settled around 165 for the third minute and returned to 150 after about a minute and a half at 8.0 mph.
I never got to swim on Tuesday night because I got called on to perform a priesthood ordinance for a sick child at the hospital. Some things are more important than excercise, right? Anyway, I went to work out at the gym today, andit was closed an hour before I got there. So, I will workout tomorrow morning and then try and swim at night. Tomorrow after lifting legs and abs I will do a mid-distance tempo run (slower than speed workouts but faster than a longer distance run).
Random question Jason, Christy and I are pondering what to do with our tax refund/rebate, can I call you at work? Or is that off limits? We were thinking to put 2,000 towards the van and the rest to pay down the prinicpal on our home in Georgia. We want to save some of it to recarpet the house when the tenants contract expires in September, do you have any ideas about the best way to set aside around a 1000 bucks? I was thinking a 6-month cd but I don't know much about them at all.
Call me anytime.
818-553-5339 is my work number.
Off the top of my head I'd say look at http://www.emigrantdirect.com/
It's not a CD, but they're currently paying 4.25%.
