Four More

Got in another four today. It felt good. All of it was on the road this time because I had to run to the grocery store to buy some things for dinner. I took Brayden with me so when I checked my times I was quite pleased to see that I averaged an 8:15. The last mile was closer to nine though with the uphill into the wind with a jogger thing though. Whatever, it felt good and I'm glad I went, even if it did make us late for dinner with friends to watch Michigan get destroyed by USC. :( Michigan played okay and USC had their number all night. Good game USC. MI needs better play calling.

Plus three today, pace was about 7:45 downhill with the wind for the first mile, just under 10 for the second mile in the mud on the trails, and about 8:30 for the last mile uphill into the wind. Oh yeah, I was pushing Brayden too. In the end my average was 8:37 for three miles and my legs were burning pretty good. I was definitely breathing hard during most of the run but didn't ever quite get to that point where your lungs start burning. I guess that's a good thing but I was kind of hoping that a hard and fast run today would bring back that painful feeling I used to feel only in highschool sports. :) Oh well, maybe next time I'll try my speed trial on the track at school where I won't be slowed down and forced to catch my breath by the muddy trails.

Mike, looks like you're the only one with time to blog these days. I did get out for a 10 miler on Monday, but I continue to miss my short runs; and unless you call doing dishes cross training I'm not getting any of that either. The 10 mile was a new longest run for me. Average pace was 9:30 with with very even splits and the last couple of miles I was around and under 9:00. I'm more than half way through my 16 week training cycle, and even if I don't get much fast it will have been a good thing. If for no other reason than it's got me to run longer distances than I'd have otherwise considered.

You asked a couple of days ago if I got a road bike, yes. I took a bit of my signing bonus and took another step towards actually training for a triathlon. It's a different type of riding for sure. The guys in my ward that I usually bike with say it means I'm old. But truth be told compared to them I am old. Do you get out mountain biking much or is that sweet bike just getting cold and lonely these days?

Anyway great job getting out. And congrats on those times. I ran the 10 miles with a couple of guys in the ward. I miss running with you two.

I wish I could say my bike wasn't getting cold and lonely but it is the unfortunate truth. It is just so hard to make time to drive 45 minutes each way before I can even get in any time on the bike. I really miss the mountains and real mountain biking too. That's cool that you got a road bike. I hope you enjoy the dark side as much as John. :)
