Monday

Ran 2.75 in the bitter cold tonight, in the dark, on the Mississippi River Trail. I wore my running pants with warmups over those, a long sleeve shirt, windbreaker, balaclava and gloves. Actually had to pull the balaclava up until the way back when the wind was in my face. I have discovered my gloves are perfect and the balaclave is perfect too. It is real easy to pull it up over my face but still cover my ears, etc. Anyway, I only had 20 minutes to spare so I ran the 2.75 in 20:12 for a pace of 7:23, ahr 161, mhr 177. My leg felt good too, and for the first time in more than a week my lower back doesn't throb. We will see how I feel tomorrow. John

Pretty hard core if you ask me. I actually got in a run this week as well though, but I was a little more of a pansy about it and ran indoors on the track. I kind of wanted to inspite of the cold though because I haven't run in so long that I don't really know where I am at right now. So I decided to go for a longer run at a moderate pace and just see how it went. I had a bit of time but not a ton, so after doing the first mile in just under 8:30 I decided that 5 miles was about all I had time for. I did the five miles at an amazingly consistent pace. I kept track of my times in 1/4 mile increments and my fastest set was 2:03, my slowest was 2:13. The average at the end of it all was 2:08, so I am a bit slower than I was before (used to be around an 8:00 mile for longer distances) but not too bad. Anyway, basketball was really fun tonight as well. Tomorrow and Saturday are looking pretty busy, so hopefully I will have the time to get in some more running next week. I really would like to be doing enough miles to work off my gut and I don't think that running once and playing ball once will quite cut it. Oh, the funnest part of the run was weighing in afterwards (totally biased by not having eaten lunch yet, having gotten out my daily poop, and having sweated off a few pounds) where I dropped from my typical 190 to 185.9 which is not bad considering. I was able to break 180 two or three months ago and I am hoping to do it again by being more consistent with exercise and better eating habits during the winter. I really want to get playing more sports if possible next summer and I don't want to do it fat. 175 or bust! Sincerely, Slacker

Good on ya Mike. You wander down to the track for a little workout and put up times I'd love to be doing. It is nice to weigh in right after a run. I got home tonight and ate a bit before heading out. I was 188.8 prerun. Post run and poop I was at 186.0. It's funny how much one can swing in weight in a one hour period.

John you're still my hero. I could do one mile at your pace; maybe even a mile and a half. But almost three miles that pace is crusing!
