Thursday run and swim
Ran 7 miles this morning in a little over 53 minutes, the pace was right at 7:35 and my ahr was 162, mhr 181. Felt good but my legs were sore after about mile 5. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=535153
Tonight I swam, ahhh. I started with about 10 minutes of warm up sprints and then swam 600 freestyle, then finishing with a solid 200 of breast stroke. All in all I was in the pool for about a half hour. Love it.

Congrats on the 7 miles. As I’ve been trying to understand training methodology I found a chart with different zones to workout and at a glance it seems to sync with the training schedule Runners World gave me. The most interesting thing to me is how it talks about not running at certain paces for training purposes.

Wednesday I did my easy slow 2 miles in the morning and swam for about 50 minutes at night. I’m still really bad at counting how far I’ve gone in the pool. Basically when my form falls completely apart, and I have to breathe every two strokes I’m done. The pool was pretty crowded so I shared a lane with someone about half the night. I did try a flip turn and completely screwed it up so I didn’t try another one. Swimming is still my favorite kind of tired.
I am a bit curious about a comment from your Tuesday’s post. You mentioned you’d do your long run if your resting heart rate was low enough in the morning. With a fairly rigorous swim last night do I run a risk of pushing a bit to much with the cross training. Okay, as I type this it’s hitting my that today was suppose to be my rest day and I ran my tempo run. Oops, no wonder I didn’t really feel like running today. Well, at least Kristi will appreciated the fact the my run won’t interfere with our date night tomorrow.
Tonight I didn’t get out until 7:30 because Kristi had a RS thing. It was chilly (well SoCal chilly anyway) and very windy. I wore a head light for the first time on my night run and tried to keep the pace prescribed by my training schedule. I’ll be honest and say I didn’t enjoy tonight’s run. I programmed me watch to keep my on pace: 1 mile warm up; 3 mile at 8:48; 1 mile cool down. So for the 3 miles the stupid watch just kept beeping; go faster; no now slower; okay now faster; nope slower now. Between the uneven terrain and the wind it was pretty tough to keep right on pace like the watch expected me to, and after a while it was really getting on my nerves. I’ll trying it a couple more time, but then I’m going to have to figure out a different way to stay on pace.
Kristi did bring up that I could do my tempo runs on the treadmill, but I’m going to keep running outside as much as possible. We’ll see!
Jason, this is just a quick post because I am studying with a friend in a few minutes. Post more later. Enjoyed your post. Will check the article later tonight, hopefully. Measuring your morning rhr after a heavy day of exercise is a good way to judge whether you pushed your body to hard, but it doesn't mean all that much, I suppose.
