Monday Musings and a cool website

Hey, today I worked out legs in the weight room and then ran to the mississippi and back (couple hundred feet elevation). This is the first time I have done "true" squats in about 15 years. Needless to say, my hammies and groin muscles are super sore. But I am feeling restless and so I am about to hop on the bike and ride for a bit. I wanted to post a few links of 3 of my favorite runs that I have done in the last week. The longest of the three is the one that I ran last thursday in the freezing cold rain when my Nike+ refused to cooperate:

4.6871 miles. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=514487

Thursday, 5.8977 miles. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=516273
44.12, 7.30 pace

Friday, 2.4665 miles. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=516256
18.30, 7.30 pace
Maybe you'll have to cut and paste, but it is a pretty cool website. Just paste one and then change the 6 digit number in the appropriate place, then you won't need to keep cutting and pasting. Yada yada yada. John

Running toys are fun, when they work. So does the Nike+ plot you onto a map or do you do the outline on the map and it puts in the mile markers? When we went shoe shopping for Dad the other night Kristi was really interested in looking into Nike+ shoes. When I get a job I’ll get her a Nano and maybe I’ll start running with music again. I like focusing for a three mile run, but with my longer runs I could use some distractions at times.

Those look like fun runs. Especially the first two near the river. And you’re smoke’n with those times. I don’t know that I could do two 7:30 miles let alone six. Due you have any traffic issues crossing the streets, or are they small enough streets not to be an issue? Being on the bridge during the winter has got to be tough.

Last night I did my 6.2 mile loop in 54:02 (8:45 pace) taking a whopping six seconds off my time from the week earlier. For what ever reason my third and fourth mile were a challenge. My miles where 8:05, 8:49, 9:06, 9:07, 8:52, 8:42, and my last little piece I ran at an 8:25 pace. My heart rate was basically in the 170 to 175 range peaking at 183 for my sprint home. Mile five felt really good and I thought it was going to be faster. Mile six hurt a bit in the good way.

I actually did my loop three times last week; Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. But my Wednesday and Friday numbers where bad. On Wed I had the pot pie thing, and on Friday it was hot and windy and that slowed me by almost two minutes for the run.
By the end of the run I was seriously wondering if I’d over done it a little too much. So I took off Saturday and Sunday completely. That means I had an 18.5 mile week w/o and swimming.

No weight lifting for me but I did clean up the garage so I can lift when I get the discipline to do it.
