Way Dawn Runs are Better than Dusk Runs
I've never run through a swarm of gnats on a dawn run. That's reason enough. Didn't make it out this morning so I decided to take a break from working on my resume by getting a run in.
First mile was 7:31 vs. yesterday morning's 7:26. Second mile was 8:23 vs. 8:16. Third mile was 8:27 vs. 8:08. Then it got bad. I don't think the gnats gave me cramps, but I hit the gnats and the cramps hit me in mile four. Finished up at 38:54 or 54 seconds slower than yesterday morning. AHR=178 and MHR=192; Average pace was 8:22
It was good to get out. The break was a nice one, but now it's back to work.

I've been quite the slacker for the past few months, but I did manage to get out twice this week. Both times were at Natalie's request. Brayden woke up before 7 and she still wanted to sleep so I put him in the jogger and ran for a while. Times were pretty bad, but at least I did it. I ran 3.2 one day and 3.5 the next. Times were probably around 10 min/mile. Now if that isn't a BFTW run I don't know what is. I sure felt like I was going faster than that, but pushing Brayden and being all fat and out-of-shape could easily have caused me to go that slow. Anyway, it did feel good to get out, but the times were a bit frustrating. Of course, I stopped at quite a few lights and to switch news casts on the iPod, and I wasn't really timing myselft either. I just kind of see how long I was gone and then guess how long it took me to get downstairs and set up the jogger and vice versa when I get back. I tried timing myself on the iPod the second day but somehow I accidentally stopped the timer 20 minutes in and I have no idea where in the run that was. Oh well. Better luck next time.
Funny stuff. It has been cold and rainy here (25 degrees below normal) so all of my runs have been indoors. Plus, I am winding down on the pace a little bit leading up to the race. I have been running, biking, and swimming like usual, with basketball on thursdays as well. This last sat I ran 8 miles in 59:50, which is right under a 7:30 pace. That was my goal, I accomplished it and that's that. Biking seems to be the area where I am lagging behind.
