the last few days

Hey guys, sorry about the absence, it has been a tough couple of weeks. What with illness and exams and postings being deleted. Anyway, this is a new week so I figured it wouldn't do for me to start off without posting todays info even though I am exhausted.

Ran 3 miles today in 20:54, for a 6:58 pace. 163 ahr, 176 mhr. Felt great but just ran out of time is all. On Saturday I ran for about 7.5 miles and exactly an hour. Not a great pace but it was my first long run in 3 weeks so I was just taking it easy. It was windy and there were a few good hills to climb. It was a blast. Tomorrow is a weights/run/swim day and I am excited, I have the butterflies just thinking about it, I love that. I will check with y'all tomorrow then. Jason, what did you decide to do with your next few months as far as exercize program?

After effectively taking last week off I've started off the week in pretty good shape. Last week was suppose to be my 12th week of a 12 week program, but since it was my mulligan week I'm finishing up my 12 weeks this week. I still haven't settled on what to do going forward.

This morning I was on the treadmill for the first time in about three weeks. I've been doing a lot more running outside lately. I did 2.75 miles in 21:25 for a 7:47 pace. My ahr was 172 bpm with a max at 196 bpm. Looking back to my log from a couple of weeks ago I've not really lost or gained anything.

My lifting has been very rewarding so I'm sure I'll keep that part of my routine, but I'll likely cut back a lot of the leg lifting. I'm also going to take a shot at tightening up my diet again. I've had way too many peanut m&m's lately. I've been justifying it telling myself I need the extra calories to gain weight, but really I've just been enjoying myself.

Nice work. I am kind of flying by the seat of my pants for workouts as well. I have a general idea but that is it, I want a written out plan from here until the triathlon.

Today I lifted upper body in the morning. In the afternoon I biked 7 kilometers (my hr monitor somehow got set to km) and then ran 3.5 on the treadmill because it was too windy. 26:15, 157ahr, 168mhr. Pace was a little slow for me, but I had just biked and I did this instead of eating lunch so I was real hungry.
Tonight I swam 1000 yards without stopping, then did 100 yards breaststroke, then 100 yards freestyle for time. I was a few seconds slower than last week but no by much, considering how hard I have worked today, I am very pleased.

Psyched my body out today and ran a second day in a row. I got on the treadmill and started out slow because I intended to go three and a half miles or so, but for some reason my heart didn’t like that. With in the first half mile my heart was over 180 bpm. I slowed down to an 8:20 pace and did three miles, increasing the pace a bit for the last mile, but all in all it was a very slow time with a pretty high heart rate. I’ll likely run again tomorrow then lift upper body on Friday and do my long run on Saturday. So basically I’m trading out my lower body workout for a light run mid-week.

I’m still anxious for the weather to warm a bit so I can look into swimming. Though I’m still not convinced the pool by my house will be large enough to work as a lap pool.

I think I share with you in your concern about the pool Jason. It really didn't seem big enough to effectively do laps in it. Of course, if you want to get good at doing kick turns it is perfect. :) I feel your pain on the slow but still hard thing. I don't have a clue what my heart rate is like, but I ran 6 miles last week and all of my mile times were around 8 or 8:10 and I was feeling it the entire time. Fact of the matter is I'm kind of scared for John to get here tonight. He is going to kick my butt all over the place for the next few days. I guess it's good to be humbled every now and then though, right? We'll keep you posted on how things go for us this weekend and hopefully even talk to you on Easter.
