You're so fast!

No links because I'm a wimp and ran indoors on the treadmill for Monday and today's five mile recovery runs. It's been cold and windy this week. It's 40 degrees outside right now and the wind chill has it down to 32.
Monday's treadmill run was much harder then I expected. I can now pretty easily knock out five miles at a 10:00 pace. But it was late so I had the slider shut, and the run quickly got long, hot, and boring. I was sweating steady by the end. My heart sat mostly in the 160 bpm, but did get up to 170 bpm at the end. Tonight I set up something to listen to, and ran early enough to keep the door open so it was a nice run.
I do get a little bummed that the mileage doesn't get into my training software. I'm still sitting at 198 miles right now and it should be up to 208 now.
Here's hoping that this training is going to get me a bit quicker. It's hard for me to imagine ever getting times like you doing these days, but I would like to get to paces at least as fast as your recovery runs.

East Canyon Mountain Bike

Did you catch that the title is a hyperlink out to MotionBased and a log of the ride? Since you asked where it was that I rode. I did the same thing with last weeks bike as well.

The week I missed two of my prescribed runs, but I feel like football and the biking more than made up for it. This week looks like a bit of a recovery week with only 14 miles. No long run this week only two five miles and a four mile. This is definately the week to get some swimming in. We'll see if I'm able to actually get it done.

Today's probably a mixed day for you. Nice to have your house back, but a bummer that everyone's gone. Mom and dad will take off this afternoon, and this will be my last week off. I'm very anxious to get back to work, but with the baby coming we're starting to feel like we've only so much time to get everything in order.

Wednesday and turkey day

I ran 8 miles on wednesday and my average pace was 7:26 per mile, ahr 160, mhr 177. Felt good but I am very sore today. But not sore enough for me stay at home today and watch football. Mike, Eddie, and I played 36 holes of frisbee disc golf at a sweet course near my house. We took about 2 hours to play the first 18 and ran the last 18 in about 45 minutes. Great workout and a lot of fun. I won the first game and Mike won the second but we all had fun. Happy thanksgiving.

Saturday I went biking

with some guys in the ward over by were I took you and Mike that once. But we didn’t drive up the hill in a car and just come down the fun way. We biked up the fire road, which in my case, turned to less of a bike and more of a hike pushing a bike. The ride down was lots of fun. It was a big fire road and not technical, therefore fast.

The climb wasn’t a stress on my heart (mhr 165) but my legs were toast in the first half mile. The other three guys broke out ahead of me so I just started hiking. I like to blame it on my heavy full suspension bike, but I really need to strengthen my legs. I was suppose to due a two mile run as well, but I gave blood and had to finish my pine wood derby car for the Elder’s quorum party so I just went with the bike hike as good enough.

Last night I went out for my eight mile long run, and by the end of it my legs were quite tired. I think it was mostly left over from Saturday’s bike hike. My ahr was 161; low for me, and my time was exactly 10 minutes per mile. My routine says I should be at a 10:23 pace, but it just a little too slow. I think I’m doing what’s intended at a 10 minute pace.

Good news is I’ve now got a job. I’m starting at Nestle December 4. And the other good news is a won the pine wood derby. Funny thing was that I put about 25 minutes into the car and wouldn’t have even made one except I really felt I should support the guy hosting the party.

What’s up with you?

Ran at the school track tonight

The track running went pretty well in that I stayed right on my prescribed paces. Of course the watch was beeping the whole time to go a little faster then slower, but in the end my 800 meter sprints were within a few seconds of the program. It’s still weird to be running this slow. My 800 m parts were at a 7:40 pace and those were fun, though I definitely can’t stay at that pace for very long. I mean I could do it for a mile, but not much more. Running in circles is boring.

I’m planning on mountain biking in the morning early then I’ll likely still try to do my 2 mile easy run. Didn’t get to swim at all this week. Had something Tuesday and did my home teaching Thursday. Between swimming by myself tomorrow and mountain biking I’m going to get out with some friends. Still not lifting.

On a completely different front I’ve got a job offer from Nestle. And I’ll find out Monday if I’m getting another one from Countrywide. Months w/o an offer and now I’m going to have to decide between two. Nice to have these kinds of problems, right. Now if we could just get a decent offer on the townhouse.

Monday and Tuesday I...

ran 3.5 miles on Monday morning and then lifted weights right after. Ipod says I ran 3.6 something and google says I ran 3.47 something or other. Total time was 26 something but the pace difference was 7:21 or 7:41. I am getting kind of frustrated with the Nike+ system and my feelings are shifting to the negative. Anyway, I didn't have much time before class so I lifted decline bench and flies, lat pulldowns and then a short oblique/abs workout. I like only doing a little bit and spreading the body parts because I don't find myself as sore and it doesn't take as long. Until I can figure out how to get up earlier that is the best I can come up with.

Today I didn't get to swim b/c Christy had a Relief Society meeting so I rode the bike on the trainer for a half an hour at a fairly good clip (between 150-160 on the hrm). Gotta finish studying, tchau.

Must have had fun at the game, but check this out...

Thursday run and swim

Ran 7 miles this morning in a little over 53 minutes, the pace was right at 7:35 and my ahr was 162, mhr 181. Felt good but my legs were sore after about mile 5. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=535153

Tonight I swam, ahhh. I started with about 10 minutes of warm up sprints and then swam 600 freestyle, then finishing with a solid 200 of breast stroke. All in all I was in the pool for about a half hour. Love it.

The last few days...

have been good, took it easy on Saturday and Sunday, and Monday too come to think of it. Today I ran in the morning and swam for a half hour tonight. Both felt great, but I am still having issues with the nike plus transponder unit. I ran 3.4784 ,iles and my time was a little over 27 minutes. Here was my route, if you are interested:

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=532156

Pace was around 7:45 per mile and it felt great, I wasn't pushing at all today because of my leg, and my heart rate stayed down below 155 the whole time. I hope to go for a 6 or 7 miler tomorrow if my morning rhr is below 60 bpm.

Saturday I started slower . . .

but too slow, and it messed me up. I really took it easy for the first mile (9:28, 148 ahr,) but for some odd reason as I finished up that mile I had a cramp. I rarely get cramps even the other night with the too much pot pie thing I didn’t have cramps; weird. From there I just went back to my run. Mile two was 8:57 as I worked out the cramp. Miles three and four were right around my standard 9:00’ish times (more and more I’m thinking those are slow because I’m headed up hill and turning.) Then mile five was a nice 8:40; mile six was 8:24; and my last little 0.2 mile was at an 8:01 pace.

So calling it a negative split my second three mile was 1:24 faster than my first three. And I did get a bit faster each mile if you consider that miles three and four are up hill. I need to run my course in reverse to see what that does to my miles three and four. I didn’t have a breathe right strip on (forgot it as I hurried to get out as I was loosing sunlight,) and I think that cost me some time.

Overall it was a good week. 18.5 miles weekly average pace of 8:46 compared to 9:05 last week and 8:53 the week before.

Tried a Breathe Right strip . . .

and cut almost a full minute off my run. I also got kind of snotty, but can you believe it. More oxygen helps me run faster. I pushed a bit harder, and I’m also hoping it’s a reflection of some improving fitness as well; but I liked it. I consistently have a hard time breathing through my nose, but the strip really helped.

My AHR was 178 and max was 192 compared to 173 and 185 on Monday so I pushed a bit more. Breathing made the pushing less laborious because the air flowed easier. I got my first mile down to 7:56 and my last little sprint home was at a 7:52 pace. Outside of that I basically shaved about 8 seconds off every mile. My third and fourth miles are still my slow ones, but I’m thinking that might partly be some sharper turns in those miles that make me slow down.

Of course I didn’t swim last night. Took out a Thomas the Train and Uniqua to trick-or-treat instead. Consumed about a thousand calories in sugar. Some nights you burn calories and others nights they burn you.
