Finally got some exercise

Hey Jason and John. I am so sorry to hear that things are so hard at the Cherry home. As always you and your family are in our prayers. I look forward to talking to you this weekend. As for the exercise, I actually got out to run on Wednesday morning. I ran for half an hour and didn't keep track of distance at all except for a single mile in the middle where I wanted to see if I could break 7 minutes. Unfortunately I missed by 2 seconds. Bummer. I think the rest of my run was close to an 8 or 8:30 pace. I also got to play some basketball last night which was quite fun. There were only 10 of us that showed up so I got a really good workout from that as well. I was planning on going biking in the morning, but the weather turned sour today and I would rather not destroy trails by riding them when they are muddy. Anyway, I should be going but know that I love you both and think of you often.

Thursday

Lifted back, wide grip. Ran an 8:00 mile to warm up, 4 miles in 27:59, then ran a 7:30 warm-down mile. Played basketball for an hour and a half tonight, no swim. I am feeling really sick. Something in my chest. I don't think I should have played tonight, so I am going to take tomorrow off. How is bachelor life treating you Jason? Slacker, long time, no read.

Chest

That's all I did today, no cardio. Going to bed early so that I can get up at 5 tomorrow. I did have a good workout though, lifted heavy and was able to lift higher reps than last week as well.

Tuesday Fitness

Hey guys. Today I lifted arms and abs then ran intervals on the treadmill. Alternating 1:20 minute segments of 8.0 mph and 9.0, 9.1, 9.2 mph, etc. Got up to 9.6 mph. 20 minutes total, 2.86 miles, felt real strong but didn't want to push it long. Tonight I went swimming and did a 100 yard warmup, followed by a 600 yard coming in at 11:06, I beat my best time by more than 30 seconds. I only stopped long enough to check my time and then I swam another 400 yards for a total of 1000 yards. My total time was 19:20. Not bad. I feel tired and warm all over right now, but I can't go to bed yet, I have homework. Peace 0ut. Jason, slacker, are you there?

Monday, Natalie, and Computer stuff

Today is the last day of a four day weekend and I am enjoying myself. Got up at 6:30 (woohoo), and ran 4 miles on the treadmill. 27:50. 6:58 pace. Another great run cut short by a swift slam into the front of the treadmill with about 1/4 of a mile left. Apparently, this machine doesn't like being up above 9.0 mph, I was at 9.5 mph. Anyway, I felt great and could have run longer but I promised Christy and the kids I would make french toast for breakfast. Delicious.

Mike, how is Natalie? I have been thinking about her all day and hope that the biopsy went well, will it take long to get the results back? Was Natalie's mom helpful to have along or did she go nuts on the doctors? Anyway, give me a call when you get the chance. At some point I still want to talk to you about computers. The decision has been virtually made; I am going to buy parts and build my own, but I still want to have your input while I am buying, etc. I don't think I like the newegg site, thus I am leaning towards Tigerdirect. Jason, any input on building a pc?

Wed & Thurs

Upped my weight for Wednesday’s lower body lift. Tried to make sure that my final set for each lift was to failure with good form. I hate it when I get to my final lift for a muscle group and do 12 and then 13, 14, or more before failure. It was a little tough w/o a spot. Kristi decided she’d let me workout solo since it goes faster that way. Read; she didn’t want to get out of bed at 5:30 am.

So as I climbed into bed last night I knew I’d have sore legs this morning. Consequently I made sure to get a good stretch in before starting. But that didn’t really save me. In the end some days are as much about hanging in there as they are the number. I wanted to cut it to 2.0 miles, but made myself keep going until I matched Tuesday’s time. At the end I hit 200 bpm. Normally when I see that number in the memory as I review I write it off a bad number. Today I fully believed it. My last quarter mile I was actually feeling nauseated. My heart rate dropped quickly for my cool down so in the end I averaged 175 bpm just like Tuesday. Just goes to show how miss leading numbers can be. Same distance; same time; same average heart rate; and nearly the same max, but today’s run was very different. Today’s run was much harder.

When you guys come out here this summer I’ll have to show you some stuff “outside of town.” Believe it or not you can get outside of LA pretty quickly. Of course I won’t be able to offer you a job, but don’t let Christy write SoCal of too fast.

Tuesday

Slept in a little bit today, 5:40, and it felt good. Worked back and abs. I really enjoy lifting heavy weights light reps and dread when it is time to switch back. 4 more weeks. Ran short, due to time and the fact that I am swimming tonight. 1.5 miles, 10:19, 160 ahr, 177 mhr, 6:53 pace. I hope to have a nice long, strong swim tonight and then will rest tomorrow from cardio. WHich means I will get to sleep in until 5:40 again. Ahhhh.

Back at it

I got up at 5:08, after a horrendous night of "sleep", so called. It was so stormy last night that the thunder was shaking the house. Hard to sleep, but I got up and went to the gym anyway and had a great chest workout. Did 10-8-6-4 rep sets for incline, decline, flat bench and butterflies. Up to 65 on decline and incline, 70 on flat. I did machine flies today, 140 lbs, 8 times (instead of 4, because I felt so good). Today was speed day and I took it easy by just running a mile, normally I would do a few sets but I needed to get ready for class. THM is that I ran faster than I would have done otherwise. 6:24, ahr 165, mhr176, means I can go faster. The treadmill only goes up to 10.0 mph which is a 6:00 pace. I held that for several minutes but would have pushed it down to 5:30 for the last 1/4 mile if I could have. I think there is one machine up there that goes to 10.5 mph but I need to check on that.

Swim and Friday

Swam 800 yards on Thursday night with only a slight rest around 400 yards, practiced my kickturns (almost drowned), and then came home and went to bed.

This morning (Friday) I had a lighter workout in the weight room, arms and shoulders, but only 6 total exercises and lighter weights. I am not as sore from yesterday's swim as I was on Wednesday from Tuesday's swim. That sentence sucked but you get my drift. Anyway, I then ran a 5k on the treadmill with a few hills thrown in, sweet program called a 5k fun run. The freaking machine shut off on my when I was at 4.65 kilometers and running down the homestretch at 10.0 mph. Slammed into the front of the treadmill and let out a mild expletive! I think my time was somewhere around 19:high 40's or low 50's. I was booking man. Pissed. That would put my average pace around 6:52 or so up to that point. If you carry it out using the 10.0 mph that I was running, then it would be around 21 minutes. Pace would have been around 6:46. I was feeling real strong and think that I can push through to around a 6:40 mile within the next two weeks. I need to get to below 6:30 if I am going to finish the 5k in under 20 (my ridiculous goal).

Yesterday and Today

Hey guys,
Hopefully things are getting back to normal for you both. Well, probably not for you Mike, but at least for Jason. I was very sorry to hear about Natalie's test results and have been thinking about you both since she called. My thoughts and prayers are directed towards you and your wonderful wife. I know things will turn out for the best. So, on with my post...

I didn't get to bed until around 1 am on Tuesday night (wired from the swim I guess), so consequently I didn't get out of bed to work out on Wednesday morning. But I managed to ride the trainer at home, real hard for 50 minutes while watching Bourne Identiy.

Today I got up at 5:25, lifted close grip back (did 6 unassisted pull-ups, woohoo!) and only managed around a mile of running and a mile of walking. I didn't even keep track of time or heart rate. I was totally exhausted from the bike ride. My legs are absolutely mush right now. The bike last night combined with helping the Coleman's move from their three story house on Tuesday evening before my swim, combined with climbind stairs at school and home today...my legs are beat down. I think I will work shoulders and arms on Friday, and go for a run based on how I feel, then Saturday will be my legs/abs workout with a long run, if it isn't raining I will run outside.
Jason, I just opened an account with EmigrantDirect, do you also bank with them? Just curious. Also, I got to touch butts today in my palpation class, and had my first experience with trying to feel bony protrusions on a rather overweight individual. At first I felt awkward, but you just have to push in a little harder and farther adn get used to it. It is exciting to finally be able to get hands on.

Love you both, and look forward to palpating your ischial tuberosities soon. j/k

Nothin'... again

Sure wish I had something to say. Unfortunately I don't. I have been taking care of Brayden and the house for the past little while now. Natalie really gets hit hard by the whole pregnancy thing. We did get to go on vacation for a couple days during spring break though. We went down to Ohio to play at an indoor water park. It was really fun. I am still sad that Natalie got sick when John and Christy were supposed to come out though. It would have been so much fun to see you guys. Natalie is over strep now though, just still suffering from the human leech sapping her strength. On Monday I am going to hang out on Central Campus, so I am looking forward to running then, for the first time in quite a while. Maybe I'll even have to be trendy and take my new toy with me. I got a Creative Zen Nano Plus this afternoon so that I can listen to general conference and other books in general on MP3. I also finally bought the mounting kit to put my old MP3 playing CD-player in the Corolla. I think it will be really nice to be able to listen to conferency while running/biking/walking to school/etc... I really enjoyed listening to conference in the car, and listening to The Da Vinci Code was fun too. We'll see how things work out.
